The new Phantom 5 OC features a new Onset-Center (OC) configuration. With a straight shaft installed directly in line with the putter’s center of gravity, Phantom 5 OC provides ultra-forgiving, low-torque performance. Its signature winged design has also evolved with a deeper face, subtly rounded contours, and a new full-face Studio Carbon Steel insert that produces softer sound and feel.
Are OC models zero-torque putters?
OC putters are low torque, as the act of putting introduces torque, no matter the design. Compared to other Scotty Cameron offerings — even the existing Phantom lineup’s most face-balanced models — OC putters deliver the lowest torque design for a square-to-the-path delivery.
What kind of golfers would benefit most from OC?
OC putters will best fit players looking to minimize face rotation and feel a straight-back-and-through stroke. Design elements like minimal shaft lean (one degree), familiar head shapes from the Studio Style and Phantom families and a conventional grip style (tapered Matador Mid) help facilitate a smooth transition from more traditional putter setups.
How do OC putters maintain feel and feedback?
A priority throughout the OC design process was to mitigate loss of feel and feedback. OC putters feature a slightly stiffer shaft that complements the 15-gram heavier head weights and maintains flex properties that preserve the feel of the clubhead. The SCS face insert on the Fastback and Phantom 5 OC and the chain-link milling pattern on all OC models provide Scotty Cameron's familiar soft feel off the face at impact, and a tapered Matador Mid grip offers a comfortable connection to the stroke through the hands.
